The Cheyenne Communal Club: Jimmy inherits and runs a bawdy home in the Old West. The film has lots of chuckles, although stereotypes are thick throughout the film. Cast includes Henry Fonda, James Stewart, Shirley Jones, Sue Ane Langdon, and Elaine Devry. (1003minutes, 1970)

Alien Nation: In the near future, a race of strange-looking aliens is gradually (and grudgingly) being integrated into civilization. Worldweary L.A. cop Caan takes one of the aliens on as his partner, so he could track down the aliens who murdered his prior associate. Cast includes James Caan, Mandy Patinkin, Terence Stamp, Kevin Chief Howard, and Leslie Bevins. (94 minutes, 1988)

China Gate: Global cadets under French instruct assault a Socialist munitions area in Indochina. Fascinating subplots flesh out Fuller’s dynamic action tale, with early view of Vietnam’s internal strife. Cast includes Gene Barry, Angie Dickinson, Nat Emperor Cole, Paul Dubov, Lee Van Cleef, George Givot, and Marcel Dalio. (97 minutes, 1957)

The Faculty: Ohio high schoolers who typically conflict with each other band together while they find that their professors are being taken over by alien beings. Cast includes Elijah Wood, Salma Hayek, Piper Laurie, Famke Janssen, Chris McDonald, Robert Patrick, Bebe Neuwirth, Clea DuVall, Laura Harris, Shawn Hatosy, Guide Raymond, Jon Stewart, and Daniel von Bargen. The Pawnbroker: This is a vital, preoccupying film. Steiger is phenomenal as Sol Nazerman, a Jewish pawnbroker in Harlem who lives in a protected enviornment with haunting rememberings of Nazi jail camps. Cast includes Rod Steiger, Geraldine Fitzgerald, Brock Peters, Jaime Sanchez, Thelma Oliver, Juano Hernandez, and Raymond St. Jacques. (116 minutes, 1965)

AI Artificial Intelligence: In the near future, scientist Hurt and his team create a highly advanced android kid who might experience feelings, containing love. His adoption by a nice couple who have lost a child is riddled with complications. This enthralling tale draws us in, thanks in part to Osment’s magnificent performance. Cast includes Haley Joel Osment, Jude Ordinance, Frances O’Connor, Brendan Gleeson, Sam Robards, William Hurt, Jake Thomas, Ken Leung, Michael Mantell, and Adrian Grenier. (145 minutes, 2001)

The Big Trail: Mythical Western might appear creaky to some watchers, although it continues to be considered one of the most impressive early talkies. John Wayne was “found” for featuring role, and already shows his laidback charm. Cast includes John Wayne, Marguerite Churchill, El Brendel, Tully Marshall, Tyrone Power, Sr., David Rollins, and Ian Keith. (110 minutes, 1930)
